AuPix demonstrates future videophone quality

Yesterday at VON, AuPix announced its next-generation IP videophone platform, based on Texas Instruments’ (TI) DaVinci™ technology. Demonstration at booth 445.

It'll be the foundation for our product roadmap, and for the OEMs and ODMs we're working with.

“The new platform is showing vast gains in programmable, real-time DSP performance, enabling improvements to both video frame rate and most importantly video quality,” said Graham Brown, CEO. "The combination of DSP performance and SoC integration can deliver high-quality video to the desktop at affordable prices."

VON 2007

AuPix has booth 445 at VON (San Jose) this year - near the press room, if you visit - but I'm stuck back in the UK. So I'll be trying to get an impression of it from blogs like VoIP Watch.

It sounds like the success of hallway 'conversation areas' at SxSW has been taken onboard, and I expect plenty of mentions of Twitter!

"Ease of use and simplicity for the user"

(Alcatel-Lucent CEO) Pat Russo's recent interview with the FT struck a chord :

"What would you most love to see?" "I'd love to see the communications industry tackle ease of use and simplicity for the user. Phones are actually getting more complex."

It's been said many times before, and reminded me of a quote on Dave Farber's IP list :

"I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone. My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone" -- Bjarne Stronstrup (originator of C++ programming language)

Photos of video phones

I guess the current lack of "video phone"-tagged photos on Flickr and Zooomr (for example) is a good indication that there's not (yet?) a mass market need/ appeal/ buzz. What could change that?

AuPix location

We're in a new office park on the edge of Bristol : nice premises, well located for road, rail and air links, and customers worldwide.

Every morning I get to cross Brunel's suspension bridge, pass Ashton Court and look over the Severn Crossing. And we've nearly got enough parking spaces!

We're just crying out for a decent coffee shop/ 'third place' nearby though.

Twitter for VON meetups?

My topics may be more random than John's, and include other interests.

For instance, there's Twitter coverage of 3GSM going on at the moment [via rawsocket.org], and it'll be interesting to see whether that sort of back channel exists for VON, when we're in San Jose next month. Anybody going?

Another topic already?

Another topic already hey?

Well I thought that since we get a lot of interest in our products for the deaf and hard of hearing, I'd better say something about that in the coming posts.

We've supplied videophones, relay servers and content servers for deaf and hard of hearing people for the last 10 years and there are some very specific needs in this sector... but we'll get to that later.
